3D book 2Thanks to the many readers who wrote me asking about a full-size book, I finally listened!

After almost a year of formatting and editing, and over two years' worth of blog writing, I'm thrilled to let you know that Horse Listening - The Book: Stepping Forward to Effective Riding is in its final stages of editing and becoming more of a reality as we speak!

If you have been printing out various blog posts and getting buried in a multitude of loose sheets - stop!

In Horse Listening - The Book: Stepping Forward to Effective Riding, I have compiled over 25 of the most popular and useful articles from this blog, collated them according to four themes, and prepared them in a tidy, all-in-one package for quick and efficient reading (or alternatively - long, thoughtful perusing of deep and meaningful concepts)!

It is designed to be thought-provoking but also chock-full of useful, ring-ready practical suggestions. As with all Horse Listening material, the purpose is to help the rider improve so that the horse can benefit.

HL Five Years
HL Bundle
HL Goal Setting
HL Book 3
HL Book 2
HL Book 1

New for the book is an "In the Ring" section, which takes the theory from each chapter and gives specific ideas for exercises that you can take with you to your next ride.

Book Release date: March 10, 2014!

More specific details (cost) will be available when the book is ready for release.

It will come in both paperback and Kindle format. There will be photos inside, but I'm still deciding on whether the interior will be full colour or black and white (which will be cheaper than colour). Please let me know in the comments below if you have any questions or suggestions for the book.

  1. Yay! I’m excited to have you provide a written copy of your inspirational articles. I vote for color and will definitely purchase a traditional book! You have such a nice way of explaining simple concepts to make our communication with our horses more effective and kind…. Thank you 🙂

  2. I am new to horse listener, but would be interested in the book. Colour or b&w is fine, kindle also is v.good. Perhaps if someone buys the hard copy you could include a kindle version with the purchase?

  3. I am very new to your blog. For those of us who are not familiar with your blog could you please list the four themes you alluded to? I’d like also to see chapter titles, more specific descriptions and details of what is included in this book. Thank you!

  4. I might get BOTH “real book” and “space format.” As long as the photos are sharp, I don’t care whether they are color or black and white (newspaper background talking here ;o) CANNOT WAIT until March 10!! And congratulations on your ESMA honors, too ;o)

  5. I’m so pleased for you. And so pleased for me, and everyone that I’ll reccomend the book to !
I think colour pictures will look more professional and might boost sales – people are more likely to buy it for a gift if it has colour pictures, and more likely to by themselves a copy after quickly flipping through a friend’s copy. Although a lower price point might stimulate online sales, I think reviews mentioning beautiful pictures would probably offset that.
I’d be interested to know what path you went down to get published / which publishing company, if you don’t mind sharing that?

  6. Fantastic! I am more of a ‘traditional book’ person … color or b/w does not matter…. can’t wait to buy it! :o)

  7. Congradulations! I hope to soon be published as well. It is such a great feeling of accomplishment because of all the time, blood, sweat and tears you put into the whole process. I would definitely like to see your book in color and traditional paperback. I hope you will not set the price very high. Maybe no higher than $17.00 just so those peoples on a budget will be able to get there own physical copy to reread and keep for years to come. A lot of people would appreciate that, I am sure. Again, congratulations and thanks!

  8. Yes, yes, and yes, I am interested in the book. I have found these posts so helpful and wondered why a book hasn’t been available. ☺ Black and white pictures are good unless there are arrow/ dots / indicators to note explanation, then perhaps colour would be necessary.
    Thank you

  9. Looking forward to it. Color is nice but sometimes black and white can be more effective – depends. I plan to purchase soon as it is available!

  10. Congratulations Kathy! Your Horse Listening articles have proven to be a great teaching resource, and I think it is wonderful that you are putting everything together in book format. Since you have already developed an audience, I am sure the book will sell very well! It makes little difference to me if the pictures are in color or black and white. Good Luck!

  11. I personally love black & white photos. So glad to hear a book will be available. Thank you – I enjoy the blog.

  12. It is very exciting that there is a book release this coming March I can’t wait:D I would opt for full colour photo’s even if it added to the expense it would be worth it !! So far information I have received from emails from horse listening have been a great sourse of information and has helped me solve day to day problems without having to pay for a qualified instructor . So in the long run I am saving money. As a multiple horse owner any savings are very welcome . Good luck with your book sale I think you have a customer here.

  13. If cost is prohibitive – I would vote for colour for the ebook version (no extra cost for colour in digital land!) and black and white for print version.
Personally, I love the idea of a digital version – thanks!

  14. your information is an invaluable asset for my daughter to get a better understanding of her techniques and riding, as a non riding committed mother who loves watching herdaughter i applaud your well written, easy to understand information and cant wait for the release of your book in hard copy. Many thanks.
