Ground Work Session #7: In-Hand - In The Details

While this in-hand pattern seems fairly simple, there's quite a bit involved: steady walk tempo, halt, back up a few steps, walk through, walk-over with an elevated pole, turn away and leading from both sides. Do it a few times each way, a few times on each side, and you have yourself a nice 15-minute in-hand workout that keeps your horse's attention, gives him things to think about, and helps you improve your communication and leading skills. Try to use the lead as little as possible, and work more from your body position as cues!
